Meet Terry Hayslett:

1. What is your role with SmartTRAK? As a Senior Analyst for Wound Care, my role is to manage and maintain the US & WW External Devices (NPWT, Energy, Oxygen and Debridement) and Compression modules. I also provide reimbursement and regulatory support across all AWC modules.

2. What do you like about SmartTRAK? SmartTRAK is made up of a team of smart, highly accomplished and collaborative individuals that are committed to understanding and meeting the needs of our customers. I am fortunate to work with such a talented group of people.

3. Pretend I’m not a medical device person. Can you explain SmartTRAK in simple terms? SmartTRAK is an online information resource designed to help medical device companies make better and more informed business decisions. This is done by tracking and providing ongoing updates on market trends, company revenues, new products, deals/financing, clinical studies, regulatory filings, and patents.

4. What do you think the biggest promise of medical technology (in your area) is? I think one of the biggest promises in my area is the development and growth of single-use NPWT (sNPWT) systems. sNPWT devices are the growth engine for NPWT and are used in the acute care setting for incision management and in the non-acute setting for low-to-moderately exudating chronic wounds. Growth has been driven by evidence showing how sNPWT can help reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) in high-risk surgical patients.

5. How will it change everything? This technology will change things by helping to reduce SSIs. SSIs are a major cost-driver in the hospital environment. Growth in this technology should continue as long as there is clinical evidence to support the value proposition that sNPWT is more cost-effective than standard wound dressings in reducing SSIs in high-risk surgical patients.

6. What are your favorite online websites or resources that you check every day? SmartTRAK news feeds, company news alerts/feeds, company investor relations pages, Seeking Alpha, Morningstar, CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services)

7. How do you keep your medical device research skills current? I read other analyst reports to see where I can improve my writing in certain areas. I also like to attend conferences and trade shows to meet industry contacts, see what’s new and listen to what people are discussing.

8. What qualities do you think are most important in a business intelligence /research/analyst role? I think it’s important for analysts to be curious and good listeners. They should also have the ability to weave together qualitative and quantitative information to tell a story or provide insight that is not readily transparent.

9. iPhone or Android? Why? iPhone. I think I bought one early on because of the clean and simple design and then it just became too much of a hassle to switch. However, I consider switching each time I see a photo taken on an Android phone.

9. Mac or PC? Why? I have a Mac, but I’ve used both. The Mac is very reliable and I like the clean and simple design.

11. How do you manage your work-life balance? Kids? Family? I take time to exercise as often as possible and spend time with my wife and daughters.

12. What do you like to do when not working on or thinking about SmartTRAK? Running and reading give me a tremendous amount of peace. I also enjoy watching sports.

13. Dogs or cats? What are their names? I prefer dogs, but currently have no pets.

14. What do you do to help altruistically? I am actively involved in my church and support initiatives to help those in need.

15. What are the next major challenges for SmartTRAK and for you?  I
think the ongoing challenge for SmartTRAK is to continue to listen to and
address the needs of our customers. My challenge is to make sure that I continue to support SmartTRAK in meeting the needs of our customers by
providing insightful analysis.
