John has 13 years of Medical Device sales and leadership experience within Orthopedics, helping to support trauma, joint replacement and robotics for Stryker and Biomet. Most recently, he has been the founder and CEO of TYDEi Health, a provider-focused business intelligence and optimization platform.
Meet John Hatchell:
What is your role with SmartTRAK? I will be assuming the role of Director of Sales for the Commercial Team.
What do you like about SmartTRAK? Today, everyone loves to talk about the importance and value of data, but it really only has that if it tells you a story. SmartTRAK is the perfect blend of technology and expert analysis to give customers unique industry insights they otherwise would not have access to.
What is something special or unique that you bring to SmartTRAK subscribers? My experience in the industry goes back 17 years and has transcended numerous clinical trends and economic influences. I know the challenges of today are going to be a lot different than the ones of tomorrow. My goal is to bring value in consultation while leveraging the tools of SmarTRAK to enable a better future state for our clients.How/why did you get into the life sciences industry? Honestly, by accident. My original intentions were to be a lawyer. I was 23 years old and found myself in the interview process with Stryker after making friends with one of their Sales Representatives at the gym I was working at while waiting to start Law School in the fall. This was back in the day when you could shadow in the OR, and from the minute I stepped into surgery I knew this was the right path.
What are your favorite online websites or resources that you check every day? I read a LOT, but the best sources for my interest tend to be the WSJ, Business Insider and ESPN.
How do you stay current on what’s going on in the industry? Since joining the team and having access, I’m not sure you can get more current than the daily update from SmartTRAK. That said, I love the power of social networks and the ability to connect with folks about what they and others are working on.
If you could have one super power what would it be? Time travel. The ability to go visit moments in the past or future would be pretty wild.
What was the last show you binge-watched? Just finished Animal Kingdom this week!
What is your life like outside of SmartTRAK? My wife Kristin and I have three kids Jakob (11), Sadie (8) and Chatham (5). We decided to move to the Gulf Coast of Florida last year after 16 years in Connecticut to take advantage of the outdoor lifestyle. If I’m not working there are only a few other places to find me: at the gym, cheering my kids on from the sideline or at the beach with a line in the water.
