The momentum in neurovascular robotics accelerated in 2025 as the market saw a significant number of firsts in realizing the use of robotics for interventional treatment.
In 2025, the neurovascular community saw significant progress in realizing the use of robotics for interventional treatment. After years of discussing the idea of robotics, momentum accelerated and the market saw a significant number of firsts. SmartTRAK noted that each company was quick to claim its stake: XCath performed the first in-human aneurysm repair using its EVR System in Panama; Remedy Robotics claimed the first fully remote human brain angiograms in Canada and Sentante claimed the first transatlantic series of thrombectomies in a live-animal model. Figure 1 highlights the companies SmartTRAK has followed and their key milestones through early 2026.
While these “firsts” are vital to progress, SmartTRAK believes the race to commercialization is a marathon, not a sprint, as companies try to solve the time, distance and resource challenge of stroke treatment. With thrombectomy, hospital access remains concentrated in major metro areas, and the number of neurointerventional specialists capable of performing this life-saving procedure remains limited. Simply, a significant portion of the global population remains too far from a specialist. Unlike robotics used in other procedural areas, neurovascular robots will enable a tele-specialist model, allowing experts to be deployed throughout the country or the world, taking their hands directly into the centers that need their help.
Advocacy for patient access also accelerated in 2025, with the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN)’s Mission Thrombectomy announcing an exclusive partnership with Remedy Robotics to accelerate the N1 System and expand worldwide thrombectomy access. Additionally, the US Department of Health and Human Services launched the Autonomous Interventions and Robotics (AIR) program to support the development of autonomous robotic systems for performing stroke thrombectomies, aiming to improve nationwide access to stroke treatment. With the first round of solution summaries submitted in January 2026 and final proposals due in March 2026, SmartTRAK expects grant funding and partnerships to be announced in H226.
Beyond Concept to Clinical Validity
The benefits of robotics are evident in the neurovascular space, expanding access, reducing death and disability and lowering operator radiation exposure. But so too are the challenges, including telerobotics and ensuring the remote signal works throughout case completion; designing flexible, steerable robots that can navigate tortuosity and provide haptic feedback to the operator from a remote location; and, notably, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of neurovascular access products and devices. This is where SmartTRAK expects 2026 to lead us, continuing to move beyond concept and toward demonstrating clinical validity. As researchers demonstrate clinical validity, strategic partnerships with device manufacturers are likely to emerge. SmartTRAK will continue to monitor critical developments in this space.
SmartTRAK has identified at least nine companies developing current and emerging neurovascular robotic technologies. Figure 1 outlines the status of these companies and their technologies through early 2026.
