NANS StartUp Spotlight: Micro-Leads Medical

2/7/20 9:38 AM

Micro Leads 9Micro-Leads Medical, based in Somerville, MA, showcased HD64, an emerging, high-resolution spinal cord stimulation therapy for treating chronic focal pains of the low-back, trunk, extremities and feet at NANS 2020. Anne Staylor, SmartTRAK's Managing Editor and Sr. Director of Advanced Technologies, attended the NANS 2020 Emerging Technologies Forum and saw this novel technology designed for the spinal cord stimulation market.

Anne reports that, according to the Company, HD64 uses a very thin, 64 contact surgical lead with an embedded chip that delivers therapy to twice the number of pain-carrying fibers in the spinal cord, including the dorsal roots, dorsal horn, and dorsal column. Although the Company is also making progress in developing a closed-loop IPG design, the current focus is on the surgical lead. The Company has raised $20MM to date through government grants (SBIR, NIH, DARPA) and is currently raising additional capital to start implants in humans. The Company recently started testing subjects in an intraoperative trial and is also working on a directional percutaneous lead.
