Meet Shelly Caruso:

What is your role with SmartTRAK? As a market analyst and medical writer for SmartTRAK’s Neuro and Ortho modules, my role is to support research and analysis in those areas.

What are you most looking forward to about working for SmartTRAK? I am looking forward to providing our customers valuable insight into medical technologies and markets by combining my clinical expertise, education in economics and editorial skills.

What is something special or unique that you bring to SmartTRAK subscribers? From my clinical background and experience working in the operating room, I bring an in-depth understanding of how new technologies and devices affect efficiencies and workflows for physicians and healthcare teams.

What do you think the biggest promise of medical technology is? I think advances in computer-assisted orthopedic surgical planning is an area of great promise as well as new applications and technology in neuromodulation.

How will it change everything? The ability to create patient-specific surgical plans, instrumentation and implants can improve operative workflows, reduce waste and promote better patient outcomes through personalized medicine.

Similarly, the advancements driving precision and effectiveness in neuromodulation therapies have tremendous potential to improve the lives of patients with pain and movement disorders.

What are your favorite online websites or resources that you check every day? SmartTRAK updates, LinkedIn for overall industry news and specific company sites.

How do you keep your medical device research skills sharp? I keep my research skills sharp by reading articles and news releases and considering what implications that information has for procedures, companies, markets and patients.

If you could have one super power what would it be?  To have perpetually warm hands and feet.

What was the last show you binge-watched? The Great British Baking Show

What is your life like outside of SmartTRAK? (family, kids, pets? What can we find you doing when you’re not working?) When I am not working, I like to read, do yoga and cook. My husband and I like to spend our time together outside. We can be found hiking and rock climbing in the Appalachian Mountains with our dog, Nissa, in tow.
